Poodle Size Guide

Poodles come in four official varieties — Toy, Miniature, Medium, and Standard — and each has a body proportion unlike most other breeds. They are square-built (back length roughly equals shoulder height), long-necked, and narrow-waisted. Our poodle cuts are drafted specifically for that silhouette.

How to measure your poodle

  • Neck — where the collar sits, at the base of the neck
  • Chest — the widest point, just behind the front legs
  • Back length — from the base of the collar to the base of the tail

Poodle necks are proportionally finer than most breeds of the same chest size. If in doubt, measure all three and write to us — we will recommend the right size.

If your dog falls between two sizes, choose the larger.

A note on poodle proportions

Poodles have a longer back relative to their chest than most breeds — a Miniature Poodle with a chest of 42 cm will need significantly more back length than a Bichon or a Cocker of the same chest measurement. Our poodle cuts account for this.

The neck on a Poodle is also disproportionately fine for the body size. Two poodles can share the same chest measurement and have very different neck sizes — always measure both.
